I just called the Metropass office the morning with the intention of changing the type of my monthly Metropass from a regular adult pass to a post-secondary pass, as the TTC has promised to extend a discount for post-secondary students for months now. In fact, I was instructed to do this the last time I called the office to try to do this, as the last time I called the July pass had not been issued yet and it was too early to change my type of Metropass. However, today I was informed that the TTC decided last week to violate their promise to students for no reason, and will not extend this discount to me in the form of a monthly Metropass, leaving me only the option of purchasing a monthly pass every month, with cash only as that is the only form of payment my nearest subway station will accept. This means that the level of service provided to me by the TTC is decreasing from the convenience of a monthly pass mailed to my house and paid for by a secure direct debit transaction, to me having to remember to withdraw a very large amount of cash before the first of the month, and then walk around with this very large amount of cash on my person until I go to buy the monthly pass.
This is UTTERLY UNACCEPTABLE! I can't believe the flagrant lies the TTC is willing to feed to the public, especially in the midst of the latest public relations crisis with the rude operators and sleeping employees. I am a big believer in public transit, and still liked taking the TTC even in the midst of the bad publicity about it, but now I am strongly considering purchasing a parking pass at my university instead of ever paying the TTC another cent after this betrayal of my trust.
This type of flagrant lying and horrible customer service will only cost the TTC money. They may as well provide the service they initially promised to students, because that may be the only way I will ever pay the TTC another cent, and I'm sure many university students who find out about this betrayal will feel the same way. University student ridership constitutes a HUGE proportion of the TTC's paying customer base, and thereby if they lose lots of university student riders, they are going to lose a huge part of their income.
