Drivers are not someone who just drive a vehicle from point A to B, they should have public relations. Drivers need to show more concern on what goes on in their vehicles and have a sense of pride or ownership to their vehicles.i.e, if a rider does not get up for disabled person they should get involved. Tell someone not to liter or vandalize the vehicle if they are notified by a rider.
Drivers should know how to diffuse anger and other aggressive behavior just like any other service that have to deal with the public. There are inherent risks to dealing with the public just like any other public service and they do not need warning sign of legal implications. This sign gives an unfair and bad impression on the city to visitors. There have been many rude, aggrogant, unhelpful, uncooperative behavior from TTC workers that can inflame bad behavior from an already angry person. Where are their professionalism and skills?
Reduce operating cost not vehicle service by selling tokens in more drug store, convenient stores etc.Do not need 3 workers collecting or selling fares i.e. Islington station and other busy stations have 3 fare collectors, one in two booths and one in center drinking coffee and watching people drop fares in box. These workers can be utilized in other work

TTC shold find money within their own operating budget.
Now that the Federal government took its promise back, the more reason for the Corporation to find ways to save money, not cuts in buses or trains. Constant holding out its hands to the government is fruitless. A driver or ticket collector who just drive from A to B or just sell tickets and abandon booths for many breaks and have no public relation skill is not worth more than 5OK a year plus benefits let alone the many of them that were published of have made over 100K per year. Get with the economic times. These people serve hard working people that make way less than these arrogant staff who forget who they serve.
The union leader is a disgrace to all unions. The public finds their staff not doing their work which the TTC Corporation and union should have only to have the union leader go on the media to threaten the public. He is a real joke as his blind dedication to his lazy workers makes all unions look bad. Now he wants to hold town hall meetings just to patronize the riders, he is not interested in hearing what they have to say. He has disrespect for the riders just as many of his workers. Look at how he went on TV and affirmatively warned riders to stop taking pictures of sleeping workers. If TTC as a Coperation and the union could not find answers to how their workers serve the public with respect, helpfulness and diffuse frustrations with the system then they should step down and let someone else run the business and give work to many willing unemployed people in the city. The plague in each vehicle warning the public about their faith if they assaulted a TTC driver is an insult to the 99 percent of decent riders. This sign give visitors to the city a bad impression of the city.
After listening to the patronizing town hall meeting.
Kinnear attributed to escalators stoppage to children pushing the red button. How many of you regular riders seen children play with the red button? Lay the blame on Children that cannot defend themselves instead of workers not keeping up with repairs or aging equipment!
"We want to take a proactive stance. We want to do something that's going to encourage more dialogue and hopefully have something positive come out of all of this negativity," said Kinnear.Sounds more like trying to save his own skin.
Did Kinnear not affirmatively tell the public not to wave their cameras at TTC workers slacking off? A job that the union and management should have monitored for. Now do you think that Kinnear can lose his spots of arrogance and disrespect like a leopard can shed his spots?
It is too costly to sustain a system with highly paid workers that hold riders hostage and the public chaos at every round of negotiations. It is overdue for a complete overhaul of the system. The present system needs new blood...so the city can have a great public transit that is comparable to other great public transits.
Again, Kinnear comes to the defence of a bad worker.
Kinnear again defended the driver that allegedly assaulted a rider while he ordered the rest of the passengers off the bus, before the result of the investigation.
Kinnear uses this to show that the drivers face conflict everyday just for doing their job.Kinnear thinks that their job is so unique when it comes to dealing with the public. How then other public services do not provoke such conflicts? Especially those that deal with sick, anxious, and in pain? along with their protective families? If one cannot handle the public respectfully and have communication skills to handle a conflict then one should not hold a job that requires dealing with people. Even a taxi driver with little English deal with a conflict much better than this driver.
This only goes to show the arrogance of the workers being confident that nothing happens to them when they verbally or physically assault the people they work for-the riders. As Kinnear already said that he was confident that the driver will be exonerated.
It is time that the warning on the bus be turned around that the drivers can be fined and jailed if they assault the riders.
Support full funding only with accountability promised.
The union needs to give in to hard economic times and get in tune to value for money. Allow the corporation to automate where they can. Occupying a human being in a booth with a brain numbing job of collector. No wonder they fall asleep and leave their posts. Instead they could be frequenting the stations and not need TTC constables which are expensive. Where is the value of someone sitting and collecting and just selling tickets? The other day a collector got annoyed with me and had a major attitude when I asked her a question.5o plus thousand a year and 100 /year for a lot of collectors. Instead use that money to improve technology. The TTC union is antiquated. Get someone else in there.
The public will call the Prime minister only if TTC and the union and their workers show accountability. I believe they have the skills but failed with the proper attitude to serve the public. It is time the riders are shown respect.
