Better TTC

This is the experienc on bus 196A from York unversity to Downsview subway station. It was 8:45 am on 15 July 2010.

4 ladies got on bus, one of them paid $2.25 and can not find another 75 cents but a 5 dollar bill. The driver ask the lady to pay enough fare or leave the bus. The lady held 5 dollar bill and ask for the change. Since there is no change from TTC bus, the lady refuse to leave the bus and also do not want to pay another 5 dollar for the rest of her bus fare.

The drive did not want to start the bus since some one did not pay enough bus fare. The lady asked her friend for help. They all had no changes. Now, every one is waiting. Waiting for the lady to put another 5 dollars bill for the bus fare; Waiting for the driver just to ignore it.

Every one waiting hopelessly.

Waiting, Waiting...

"Let me pay for it", 5 minutes later, a lady got up and donated 75 cents. Until then, the bus had been stay idle for 8 minutes. There are around 25 other people on the bus. 200 munites are wasted on that 0.75$.

Suggestion:
1) Prepare 20$ exchange on each bus for customer on each bus.
Or
2) Use some smart card or other moden payment system.
