TTC plays designated driver

The Toronto Transit Commission is offering to play designated driver to the city’s New Year’s Eve revellers, letting passengers ride for no cost starting one minute following midnight until extended services stop running at 4 a.m.

Saturday and Sunday TTC trains and buses will operate on the Sunday schedule, with subways and most bus routes beginning at 9 a.m.

Go Transit will run an early rush-hour schedule and extend its late-night service on New Year’s Eve. Saturday services will be on the regular vacation schedule.

TTC defends bus driver in deadly crash

The Toronto Transit Commission is defending the bus driver who hit a utility worker who ended up dying Thursday evening.

The 50-year-old girl was driving a southbound No. 7 bus on Bathurst Street when it slammed to the 42-year-old man from the underpass just north of Dupont Avenue.

The guy, who was about the street acting as becoming a security spotter to obtain a colleague carrying out maintenance function from the bucket lift of a utility truck, was pronounced dead at the scene.

TTC spokesman Brad Ross wouldn't say how much experience the driver has, but said she's well-trained.

New ‘Toronto Rocket’ subway trains delayed: TTC

Man dies after another fatal TTC incident

An electrical worker was killed and another was hospitalized after their truck was struck by a TTC bus Thursday evening.

The two Stacey Electric workers had been undertaking spot maintenance at an underpass on Bathurst Street north of Dupont Thursday evening when a bus in the passing lane struck their automobile in the curb lane.

The 51-year-old man who was inside the basket of the truck's cherry picker -- which was positioned above the road -- was thrown out within the collision. He suffered non-life threatening injuries.
