the actual link of the article is if you want to read it
http://www.thestar.com/news/crime/article/1129431--man-jailed-for-cemetery-beating-death-of-homeless-man
I wrote a summary to sum up all the important info, if you guys could just help me out in what questions to ask that would really be appreciated thanks.
My Summary:
26 year old Merhawi Tekle was accused of manslaughter on Sept.18, 2009 was sentenced to 32 months in prison. He went to retrieve his TTC metro pass which was reported stolen by his younger sister. Her claim was that two men took the pass and have entered the cemetery, in Kennedy Rd. and St Clair Ave. E. area of Scarborough. Both Merhawi and his sister entered the cemetery and came across Donald Jackson, 70, and his friend, Sabbir Shaikh, sitting on a bench. Tekle approached the men and requested for the pass, however, their reply was to ignore the question and started to stand up. Tekle felt threatened and in a rash move for self defence he punched Mr. Jackson two to three times, Tekle did not know that he had seriously injured him. Shaikh grabbed Tekle's hand, pushed him away and fled to a nearby subway station where he called 911. Alas an ambulance came taking Mr. Jackson to the hospital where six days later he was pronounced dead. After an eight day trial the court found Tekle not guilty of second-degree murder rather for manslaughter. Tekle had a past history with criminal records such as failing to attend court and assaulting his brother.
He expressed that he felt remorseful, saying "felt terrible." The final verdict from the court was Tekle will be sentenced to 32 months, and under probation for a further two.
